The Fave Five Gults
We were discussing about the famous Telugu people list and since we could not easily come up with a single "top-5", we decided to do two top-5 s. Here they are:
Top 5 Telugu people - all time
Criteria: The criteria is "their contribution to Andhra", "their contribution to the perception of Andhra-ites/Gults in India and the world", "who we like" :)

- N.T. RamaRao (No questions asked - the main reason lots of Indians know Telugus are different from Madrasis - Did you see ChakDeIndia)
- Satya Sai Baba (Even if you put Devotional reasons aside - he is involved in great social service)
- Thyagayya (Do you know music?)
- Potti Sri Ramulu (The reason why we have a state)
- P.V. Narasimha Rao (Started the economic reforms in India - paving the way for the IT revolution)

I dont think NTR should be in that list. He made great contributions towards telugu movie field and nothing more. That alone cannot get him No 1 position in the all time Telugu list. He is undoubtedly No 1 on the movie list.
And I doubt how many northies or outside india know his name. Atleast the northies I know never heard of him. Ofcourse most of them dont know the difference between Tams and Gults. But they do know Chandrababu naidu and think of him as iconic in the current political landscape. So if you use popularity criteria then Naidu should be above NTR (how ironic?) in the list. NTR name is hardly mentioned in any of the national movie events in India. Infact Chiranjeevi specifically mentioned this aspect in many interviews implying people hardly know or care about NTR or ANR outside AP.
If you classify his contributions under cultural category, I think Sri Krishna Devaraya made significantly more contributions to all aspects of Telugu culture and telugu identity. You can't talk about Indian history without talking about Vijayanagara empire. Also he did protect telugu culture/literature from getting destroyed from muslim invasions.
